Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dental care ensures that your child's oral hygiene is being taken care of and well maintained early on, minimizing the risk of tooth decay, cavities, and other oral diseases. It's recommended that your child see a dentist when their first tooth comes in, which usually happens before the age of one. Cavities are the most common infectious disease in Canadian children, and can progress very quickly in baby teeth.

Our pediatric specialists are child dentists who use child-friendly language and behavior management skills within a clinic that's designed to make children feel at ease. We understand that dental visits for your child can be nerve-wracking and anxiety inducing, and do our best to make them feel as comfortable and at ease as possible during their visit. Our child friendly environment keeps your child happy and comfortable every time they visit our office.

Preventive Pediatric Dental Care

Visiting the dentist from a young age encourages your child to develop healthy habits and hopefully avoid cavities and extensive dental treatment down the line.

Prevention of Cavities for Kids

Regularly brushing and flossing the teeth can help prevent cavities, but what else can be done? Some additional prevention options include sealants, fluoride and MI paste.

Treatment under Laughing Gas Sedation

Laughing gas is a mild and safe form of sedation used for kids of all ages. It’s beneficial for children who have mild dental anxiety. Using laughing gas can help your child experience a sense of well-being and relaxation during the dental visit, so that he or she will respond more positively.

Treatment under General Anesthesia

General Anesthesia is administered at a different facility (Accredited Non-Hospital Surgical Facility) with a Licensed Medical Anesthesiologist. General anesthesia is for children with severe dental fear and anxiety who cannot cope with multiple dental appointments. This will require consultation with your physician.

Pacifier and Thumb Sucking

It’s completely normal for babies and very young children to suck on their thumbs, fingers, toys, or blankets. If, however, this habit continues past the age of three, it can affect the way the teeth and jaws are growing. It could even lead to orthodontic issues down the road, as thumb-sucking habits often turn into open bites that need to be corrected with braces.

Oral Hygiene for Children

Dental care should be incorporated into your child's life as early and as efficiently as possible. By the time your child turns 1-2 years of age, you should be scheduling an appointment with a pediatric dentist so they can be evaluated, and have any plaque or build up removed from their teeth by a professional. This is important as buildup can lead to unhealthy bacteria in the mouth, which can eventually lead to tooth decay if left for too long.

How is Pediatric Dentistry Different?

ped2-3

  • Pediatric dentists are dental specialists who underwent 3 additional years of schooling in order to learn how to optimally care for children.
  • Pediatric dentists were trained to use child-friendly language to explain dental problems to children. Understanding what is happening helps children cope with their treatment.
  • Pediatric dentists have smaller tools that are specifically designed to treat children. The smaller sized tools make the child's experience more comfortable.
  • A pediatric office is designed to put children at ease. The walls are colorful and vibrant, there is a play area for the little ones and video games for the older children.

My daughter (who is 3.5 years old now) has been to this office numerous times to see their Pediatric specialist. She is definitely not an easy child to please, but has done so well each time (did someone say Terrible Twos and beyond?!). I am so amazed by the genuine care and attention the staff and dentists have given us. I can't wait for my son's first appointment coming up soon! Definitely recommend if you are looking for the best care in town 👍🏼👍🏼

This is my daughter's first dental experience, we're afraid that this could be a traumatic experience for her. It was really great that we brought her to this dental clinic, the dentist and all of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I was really surprised that my daughter had a very good time and she was really excited to go back for her next appointment which is really rare for kids her age. The people here really know how to handle kids which is a major plus for us.

We had such a great experience here. My daughter is 2 and a half years old. I tried my best to prepare her for the dentist by showing her pictures of what the rooms would look like. It is great that there are themed rooms because it makes the kids excited to see the dentist. The staff were very friendly, Dr.Caldwell was great with my daughter! He is also a father and had a lot of relatable experiences with his child that he shared with us to give us advice on how to wean her off her soother. He was very pleased with her teeth and said to come back in one year for a follow up. This was a fun experience for both my daughter and I and I believe we found her perfect dentist match. Will be recommending and returning.

This place is awesome. the staff is super friendly. My kid absolutely loves going there. They get to watch their favorite shows in the decorated rooms and treats at the end if they sat good, which they always do. It's very relaxing for the kids. I only wish they had a place like this when I was a kid then maybe I wouldn't have such anxiety at the dentist. I highly recommend.
