Invisalign, also referred to as clear aligners, has become an extremely popular and wildly effective alternative to traditional metal braces. These discreet clear aligners work in a series of trays, each tray adding slightly more pressure to your teeth in order to gradually guide them into the desired positions. Invisalign is entirely customized for you, with each tray manufactured to represent each completely customized phase of your treatment plan.

Our orthodontist will complete a comprehensive orthodontic examination to determine whether Invisalign^® is right for you. You can even view your own virtual treatment plan to see the end result before starting treatment!

Now that you’ve decided to get Invisalign^®, our team at City Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry will take x-rays, pictures, and digital impressions of your teeth using an iTero scanner. Our orthodontist will use this information to develop a detailed treatment plan, including each individual tooth movement and the approximate treatment length. A 3D virtual representation of your treatment plan will show you how your teeth are expected to move at each stage of the treatment.

A set of custom-made aligners will be fabricated for you. When you come in for the delivery appointment, our team will show you how to wear the aligners and how to care for them. As each aligner will be worn for one week, our team will give you a series of the trays to keep at home where you can switch the old tray for the new.

As you switch aligners each week, your teeth will gradually shift into the correct position. Every two months or so, our orthodontist will conduct a progress assessment to ensure you are on the right track to achieving your new smile. Our orthodontist will also give you additional aligners at this time as needed.

Congratulations on achieving your goal of a beautiful new smile! In order to keep your teeth in place, our orthodontist will design a set of retainers for you. By wearing them as recommended, your teeth will stay in their correct positions.

As mentioned above, Invisalign treatment consists of a series of clear aligners. Each new set puts a little more pressure on your teeth in all the right places, helping to slowly guide them into the desired positions to complete your smile transformation. It's important to wear your aligners as much as possible so each set has the opportunity to fully contribute to the success of your treatment, along with staying true to the desired timeline.

Our orthodontist will tell you to switch aligners roughly every one to two weeks, depending on the amount of time your specific treatment calls for. Every two months or so you'll have a standing appointment with one of our specialists, who will assess your progress and ensure everything is going according to plan. During these appointments, new aligners may be given as needed for treatment. If everything seems to be going smoothly, you'll be sent on your way and instructed to circle back in two months!

Upon treatment completion, there are still a few more steps before we can send you to live happily ever after with your newfound smile. Sometimes after orthodontic treatment teeth tend to shift back into their old places, undoing all the work you committed to over the last couple years. To ensure this doesn't happen and your new smile remains yours, our orthodontist will design a set of retainers for you that are custom made, just for you. These retainers are to be worn as instructed, usually at night while you sleep, in order to properly maintain your new smile. By wearing these retainers as directed, your teeth will stay in the correct positions.
